Pupil Premium

What is the Pupil Premium?

In April 2011, the Government introduced a Pupil Premium Grant (PPG). PPG is in addition to the school’s main funding and is allocated to children from low-income families who are currently known to be eligible for Free School Meals (FSM), Looked after Children (LAC) and Services children.

What is our current intent?

Whitehall Infant School is a 5 star school with a F.R.E.S.H approach. It is a special place where the staff are dedicated to providing a stimulating, exciting environment where everyone feels valued and safe, ideas can flourish and pupils can realise their full potential.

Our ultimate objective for our Pupil Premium pupils is to have all PP children in school every day, ready to learn, which will enable us to further narrow the attainment gap between pupil premium pupils and non-pupil premium pupils.

Common barriers to learning for disadvantaged children can include: weak language and communication skills, Special Educational Needs, fewer learning opportunities at home, attendance and communication difficulties which can result in a lack of self-regulation/behavioural needs. There may also be complex family situations which prevent children from flourishing. The challenges are varied and there is no “one size fits all”.

We ensure that all teaching staff are involved in the analysis of data and identification of pupils, so that they are fully aware of the needs of our Pupil Premium children across the school. The needs of our Pupil Premium children are diverse and we recognise that there is no uniform profile for children eligible for PPG. We use data, pupil voice, conversations with families and teacher expertise to guide how we assign funding to meet the needs of our children, with research led approaches underpinning all of our provision. We place huge importance on the emotional well-being and personal development of children in order to allow our children to thrive and success both academically and socially.
